Postpartum! The postpartum period traditionally represents the first 12 weeks after birth. A time of wonder and awe! A time of healing. To rest and recover. A time to listen to baby, learning how this new life communicates his or her needs. A time for honeymoon type affections. Doulas help by reducing stress and calming fears.
Questions and insecurities often arise during the first couple days and weeks after birth as mothers and fathers learn to navigate this new chapter in life. New parents benefit greatly with support of family and friends. Many couples find comfort during these days with the support of a postpartum doula. One who’s education and experience working with newborn babies, siblings, parents, and grandparents help reduce stress and facilitate family bonding.
Doulas are there to be of comfort to the whole family. They help with mommy care(rest, facilitating recovery), baby care, bonding, breastfeeding, meal prep and snack preparations, sibling adjustment and connection. They are also able to help with house hold chores like washing dishes, doing laundry, and errand running. Doulas can help with organization in the home so families are better able to navigate tasks through the day and prepare with them for the next. Postpartum doulas, work NEAR the family to help Nurture, Educate, Assess, and Refer them to resources as needs arise. Lifting a layer of stress from the home environment.
